What will my child get out of taking ballet classes?
Ballet offers so much more than learning steps.
It helps children grow in confidence, creativity, and life skills
that extend far beyond the studio.
Confidence: Showing up, trying new things, and working toward goals helps dancers build confidence and self-esteem.
Discipline: Ballet develops focus, perseverance, balance, strength, and a strong work ethic in a positive and encouraging environment.
Musicality: Dancers learn to move with rhythm, timing, and musical awareness — valuable skills for all forms of movement and performance.
Posture & Body Awareness: Ballet encourages healthy posture, coordination, and body alignment — especially important in today’s screen-heavy world!
Coordination: Ballet challenges dancers to move thoughtfully and intentionally, improving coordination, balance, and spatial awareness.
Creativity & Imagination: Through storytelling, acting, and expressive movement, dancers explore creativity and develop artistic confidence.
Classroom Skills: Young dancers practice listening, taking turns, following directions, and working respectfully with teachers and classmates.
Focus & Problem Solving: Ballet encourages concentration, memory, and determination as dancers learn new skills and combinations step-by-step.
Most importantly, ballet helps children experience the joy of movement while building friendships, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Recreational Ballet Dress Code
At West Point Ballet, dancers wear traditional ballet attire so teachers can properly see alignment and movement in class. Don’t worry if you’re new to ballet — we’re happy to help answer questions!
Female Dancers
Black leotard (any sleeve style is fine)
Pink tights
Pink ballet shoes
Hair pulled back securely in a ballet bun
Please avoid skirts, tutu dresses, or loose warm-ups during class.
Male Dancers
Plain white fitted shirt
Plain black athletic shorts
Black ballet shoes (with black or white socks if desired)
Ballet Shoes: We recommend canvas ballet shoes with pre-sewn elastics for comfort and ease. Pink shoes are recommended for female dancers and black shoes for male dancers.
Pointe Shoes: Dancers should not wear or purchase pointe shoes until they have been officially approved by the studio. Pointe work requires special training and strength to be done safely.
If you have questions about dress code or where to purchase dancewear, we are always happy to help!
